Amateur boxer Gavin Wain, 30, and 41-year-old Lisa Kerley were on their way to the market to buy fish when they felt steamy so they decided to stop and have some "sexy time" in a phone booth.
The photo that was snapped by a passerby show the mum-of-four with her leggings down and half nude Wain behind her.
The picture went viral and was shared by many netizens.
The passenger, who asked not to be named, said: "I couldn’t believe they were so brazen."
The witness added: “We have a five-year-old who luckily was not in the car. It was pretty disgusting.”
However, instead off being ashamed of what they did, the lovers revealed that they are used to getting amorous under canal bridges, on river banks, in parks, fields and hedgerows.
"We both have fish tanks with me keeping piranhas and Lisa a couple of turtles and we were on our way to look at the fish section," said Gavin.
"We called at a supermarket and bought a few bottles. It was a hot day and the booze must have got the better of us. We were passing the phone box and laughing and joking and I said to Lisa “Fancy a quickie?” and obviously she did," he added.
"Gavin’s got a great body from all his boxing training and sometimes I can’t help jumping on him — whether we are indoors or not." said Lisa.
Gavin and Lisa, who have been together for a year, live not far from the phone box in Tamworth, Staffs.
Making love in a public place is a criminal offense and local force the Staffordshire Police have confirmed they are investigating the images to determine whether they think a crime has taken place.
